UBER Danish Solid Teak Sofa

Modernist, this magnificent specimen of Danish design has been fully
restored to its original splendor. This sofa is by R. Huber & Co. out of Canada, & this designer knew how to rock the beauty of the 360, & he did it to the limit!

It measures 8 feet 4.5 inches. It's been fully refurbished from AOM's personal upholsterers. Not from some hack that works out of their living room, but again, professionals that made the top ten list of
"Who's Who" in furniture restoration & design in Chicago 5 years running.
The arms are one continuous TEAK line & this Lipstick Red voluptuous base again sits upon a classic TEAK straight brace.
This sofa is looks amazing, and can accommodate you & your laptop, Chinese food, the family Chow-Chow, red wine, friends & family & most importantly a
"nappy pooh."

West Bucktown Welcomes An Orange Moon

Chicago Pipeline

As CeCe was having a blast at the Balkan Invasion at SubT this past Friday, I was up the street at An Orange Moon, having a blast of mine own while snapping a few photos and checking out the opening party scene for a vintage and mod furniture and design store which recently moved into the long vacant former Working Bikes space at 2418 N. Western, just west of Western.

Lynn McDaniel and her husband, Ty, pictured, are the duo behind an Orange Moon, which relocated to the area from Gage Park. According to its website, An Orange Moon focuses on “…the Mid Century Modern period, we also offer Retro, Jet Set Modern, Industrial, French, Victorian, Steam Punk , Shabby Chic, Danish Modern, Art Deco, World Traveler, Mission and English pieces… Here you can also discover an awe-inspiring selection of vintage lighting, textiles, mirrors, art, home sand office accessories. Allow us to assist in creating your design adventure. Re-Mix & Re-Imagine your sanctuary…”

Sounds lovely, and whose space or life soundtrack couldn’t use a little remixing and re-imagining especially on a cold November morning full of freezing rain on the verge of becoming snow like this one? If your tastes lean toward Rockabilly over Pottery Barn, and you’re in the market for some furnishings to make you feel like you’re on the set of Mad Men as you’re watching it, head over to An Orange Moon to see everything we’re writing about for yourself, or just say ‘hi’ to West Bucktown’s newest new business!

On a side note, it was great to see so many of this writer’s former West Bucktown neighbors at the party, too, and thanks to Lynn for the invitation which came by postal mail and is always a quaint touch in these e-Times. Nearby West on North provided the nosh, too.

An Orange Moon in Time-Out Chicago Magazine 11/10/11

For years, vintage enthusiasts who
weren’t willing to trek a block beyond
their own neighborhood missed out on
a stellar vintage furniture shopping
opportunity on the South Side. That’s
no longer the case as owners Ty & Lynne
McDaniel relocates to Wicker Park
this week. From BRNO Mies van der
Rohe for Knoll chairs to a blood-red
Danish sofa shaped like a woman’s
body, the selection is equally quirky
and eclectic.

Inside An Orange Moon

Rock This Moon, Rock It Inside Out
Bust out the brilliantine and lint-roll the sharkskin, cats, because tomorrow night Lynne and Ty McDaniel are having a stomp-the-floor party to celebrate the opening of An Orange Moon’s new Wicker Park perch at 2418 West North Avenue. This sharply edited vintage furniture emporium has been on my radar for a couple of years now, and I’m happy to see it blossom into a real player in the Chicago design community.

There's a New Moon Rising In West Bucktown

There's a New Moon Rising In
West Bucktown

"I’m an orange moon,
I’m brighter than before,
And I shine so bright,
Because I reflect the light of my sun."

Being able to see and appreciate the true beauty in another soul is a thematic undertone in singer Erykah Badu’s passionate “Orange Moon.”

But being able to see and appreciate the true beauty in vintage furniture, with its exquisite dove-tailing, beautiful hard wood, and smooth patina? That’s the passion of Lynne and Ty McDaniel, who aptly named their high-end vintage furniture store “An Orange Moon” after Badu’s soulful song.

IMAGE: Vintage furniture.A Chicago native, Lynne grew up visiting the open-air markets of Maxwell Street every Sunday after church with her family. It was there that she first developed her keen eye for spotting unbelievable treasures.

“My father was a real estate broker who owned hotels on the south side,” she adds. “Whenever I needed pocket money, he’d encourage me to go find something to sell from one of the buildings he was renovating. Vintage brass bedframes, French chairs, Victorian dressers – you name it, there was always something old and beautiful waiting to be discovered.”

Ty also grew up in Chicago a mere 8 blocks from Lynne, but the two didn't meet until years later when she completed her psychology practicum at his Bucktown practice. They later married, and in the process of setting up their home together, Ty developed his own love for Mid Century Modern design.

IMAGE: Lynne & Ty McDanielLynne and Ty were both clinical psychologists in 2009 when they left their successful careers behind them to follow their hearts and open An Orange Moon on 59th Street. The store quickly garnered legions of loyal fans drawn to their eclectic mix of home furnishings, including Mid Century Modern, Danish Modern, French, Mission, Victorian, Art Deco, Industrial, and Shabby Chic pieces. Today, the south side’s loss is West Bucktown’s gain as An Orange Moon opens its new doors this week at 2418 W. North Ave.

“We found that our core clientele tends to come from the Bucktown, Ukranian Village, Wicker Park, East Village and Logan Square areas,” notes Lynne. “Getting to the south side can be a bit of a haul with traffic. So rather than make Muhammad come to the mountain, we decided to bring the mountain here.”

Their mountIMAGE: An Orange Moon furniture.ain, as such, is now housed in a former North Ave. recording studio that the couple has completely gutted and rehabbed. Gone are the ugly iron bars that used to cover the building’s facade, and in their place is a gleaming windowed storefront that beckons passersby inside.

“What sets us apart from other vintage retailers is our broad selection of high-quality furnishings in impeccable condition at affordable prices,” Lynne emphasizes. “We source smart, and we’re able to pass those savings along to our clients. Great prices, high style – that’s what we’re all about.”

People may come for the vintage furniture bargains, but it's Lynne’s contagious enthusiasm for her craft – coupled with An Orange Moon’s uber hip, cool vibe – that keeps folks coming back. Pop into the store on any given evening, and you’ll be handed a glass of tequila or an ice-cold Corona to enjoy as you browse. “We want you to feel at home as you re-imagine your living space,” says Lynne.

See for yourself how An Orange Moon can help you create your own design adventure! Join Lynne and Ty on Friday, November 18 for their “re-mixed and re-imagined” grand opening party from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Guests will enjoy live music, food and drinks provided by West On North, gift bags, and more! Mention this article and receive 15% off your purchase of $100 or more.
